MANILA -- Elijah Canlas has reacted to the corruption issue involving alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.
Speaking with entertainment reporters on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 21st Cinemalaya press conference, the actor expressed his frustration and anger over the controversy.
"Sobrang busy lang ako ngayon kaya hindi ako masyado outspoken o nakakapagsalita even online. Pero deep down, updated ako. Deep down, marami akong nararamdamang galit, panghihinayang, empathy, sympathy sa mga kababayan natin, sa mga kapwa nating Filipino," he said.
"Dahil harap-harapan tayong niloloko. Harap-harapan tayong ginagago, harap-harapan tayong pinagsisinungalingan ng mga taong namumuno sa atin, ng mga kumukurakot sa atin. At parang wala silang hiya lahat," he added.
Canlas then echoed Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto's remarks about corruption in the government.
"Tama 'yong sinabi ni Mayor Vico, actually na nasa atin ito. Dapat gawin talaga nating kahiya-hiya ang maging corrupt. Dapat hindi siya kinaiinggitan, 'yung mga mayayaman... Dapat pandirihan talaga natin sila. Tapos kapag nagsimula sa atin 'yon, baka lumaganap, kumalat 'yon, at mas manaig ang kabutihan," he said.
Canlas is the lead actor of "Raging," which is an official entry to the 21st Cinemalaya.
He has joined the growing list of celebrities who shared their thoughts on flood control mess -- Anne Curtis, Nadine Lustre, Bianca Gonzalez, Vice Ganda, and Ely Buendia, among others.
