MANILA -- Actress Angel Locsin on Sunday broke her social media hiatus to join calls for accountability over alleged corruption linked to government-funded flood control projects.

Locsin shared on her Instagram Stories a message of support for Filipinos "fighting corruption," writing: "May God give you more strength to keep going."

"Watching the hearings, I couldn't help but remember the messages and news of people begging for help. Families with homes washed away, parents who lost their work, lives lost to floods/typhoons," she wrote.

"Naiiyak ako sa galit kasi pwede pa lang hindi sila naghirap. Pwede pa lang walang nasaktan. Pwede pa lang walang namatay," she added.

(I'm crying in anger because it turns out they didn't have to suffer. It turns out no one had to get hurt. It turns out no one had to die.)

Locsin also posted on X the lines, "Ang sa amin, galing sa hirap—ang sa inyo, galing sa mahihirap," along with the hashtag #stopthecorruption.

(What's ours came from hardship, what's yours came from the poor.)

Notably, her last post on the microblogging platform was in January.

Locsin's statement came as thousands of Filipinos staged protests nationwide, with major demonstrations at the People Power Monument along EDSA and at Rizal Park in Manila, to denounce alleged corruption in public works projects.

The actress joins a slew of celebrities who either took part in the protests or voiced support for the rallies on social media.
