Mikael Daez revealed that he recently underwent surgery after he suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon.
"First major injury, first surgery 🫣 A few weeks ago, I ruptured my Achilles tendon… possibly the scariest basketball related injury I could imagine," he recalled. "But at this point in my life, I guess we take whatever curveballs life throws at us."
According to Mayo Clinic, Achilles tendon rupture is "an injury that affects the back of your lower leg. It mainly occurs in people playing recreational sports, but it can happen to anyone. The Achilles tendon is a strong fibrous cord that connects the muscles in the back of your calf to your heel bone. If you overstretch your Achilles tendon, it can tear (rupture) completely or just partially."
The actor highlighted that his first goal is to walk normally again to help his wife, Megan Young, look after their baby, Leon.
"My first goal is just to get back to walking normally so I can help Mama Bonez take care of Leon. Then, over the long run, I can re-learn how to run and jump alongside my son," he said.
Mikael relayed that the recovery would take long. "From what I’ve gathered, it’s going to be a very long road to recovery but I'm always up for a challenge 💪🏽 ps, moving around in crutches is tough 🫠," he stated.
Fans online were quick to extend their well-wishes for Mikael.
"Get well soon," one fan commented.
Mikael and Megan welcomed their first child, Leon, back in May.
"We've been waiting for 9 months... And now you're here!" the actor previously posted on Instagram.
The actor shared a clip documenting their journey for the past nine months until they welcomed their first baby. "An explosion of overwhelming emotions 🥹 new chapter unlocked 🫶," he remarked.
In a podcast episode back in February, Mikael and Megan discussed their thoughts on parenting, sharing insights into how they plan to approach raising their first child.
Megan reflected on the advice she has received about becoming a parent, noting that it's impossible to ever be truly "ready" for parenthood.
"An advice that somebody gave me when it came to parenting is you will never be ready because there's always the unknown of who your child is going to be, the kind of child you're going to have. Of course you shape them with discipline, etc. but their personality is something that’s just there," she relayed.
Mikael further stressed the unpredictability of life, acknowledging that uncertainty will continue even after the arrival of their child, so he highlighted the importance of being flexible when it comes to parenting.
"We're in the middle of our lives and the whole time that I have been alive, everything has always been an unknown. Nothing is certain and that doesn't really change when you have a child. It's still all unknown, you don't know how your child is going to grow up. You can hope to influence it, hope to do the right thing but ultimately, the answer is, I don't know what is going to happen," he said.
The actor went on: "We try our best, but we do not know and I'm okay with that. Parang I've come to accept na parang that's what life is, and we make most out of the moments na you have presently, and for everything else moving forward you do your best and try to be flexible."
