14 years since they first worked together in the ABS-CBN drama series Budoy where he played the title role of a mentally challenged child, Gerald Anderson reunites with former co-star Jessy Mendiola in the upcoming drama series Sins of the Father. In an interview on Luis Manzano’s Luis Listens vlog earlier this month, the Kapamilya actor admitted that he is excited for the Filipino audience to watch it already because of its interesting premise.
“It’s not just a specific dream role, at least I’m doing something na may social awareness. Like itong show namin ni Jessy, it’s about scamming. Because sa hirap siguro ng buhay ngayon sa Pinas, with everything happening — economy, inflation, and the hardships of life — people are tempted and desperate to earn,” he shared. “But there’s no easy way, maniwala kayo. For example, sa industriya namin, kaming mga artista, ang nakikita niyo lang ‘yung finished product.”

After a hectic taping schedule that sometimes goes past midnight, Gerald shared how he was inspired by his co-star’s professionalism.
“Ang ganda ng role niya. Specifically for Jessy, it’s a dream role for actresses talaga. Lahat nasa kanya — action, suspense, drama, mystery, love, family —everything’s there, so madami kayong dapat abangan,” he shared.
Gerald was all praises for the dedication Jessy exhibited, which he said also motivated him to push himself.
“Ang sipag din niya dito. Unang-una, may pamilya na siya. May asawa na siya, may anak na siya. There’s so many reasons for her not to be there, not to do this, but she was there giving 110%. So it inspires me even more,” he explained. “Pero the point is, walang madali sa buhay. So huwag rin kayo magpauto rin sa mga one time big time millionaire deals kasi hindi naman totoo ‘yan and you’ll see it through this show Sins of the Father.”
When asked what his fans can expect to see from him after three years of being away from doing teleseryes, the 36-year-old actor revealed that there is a lot to watch out for in this new series.
“I’m just so happy with this show. It’s because ito ‘yung first show ko after almost three years. The last one was A Family Affair. I’m just happy because it’s one of the most interesting and challenging roles. Ngayon pa lang I’m very proud and excited na i-offer sa inyo kasi pinaghirapan namin ito,” he added.
With a cast that also includes Shaina Magdayao, JC De Vera, Joko Diaz, and RK Bagatsing, Gerald is proud of all the work they’ve put in taping the show.
“It’s an ensemble cast. The team is amazing. Napakaganda ng kuwento so sana po abangan niyo yan. This June na ‘yan,” he said.
