Last year, Juliana Gomez, the only daughter of celebrity couple Richard and Lucy Torres-Gomez, earned accolades for her family and her school by bringing home the gold at the UAAP Season 86 Women's Fencing division.
This year, she does her parents proud once again as she focuses on a bigger journey with the Philippine national team after officially qualifying for it last weekend.
Richard, who is a former national fencing team member and has belen the president of the Philippine Fencing Association for the past nine years, proudly shared his daughter’s latest achievement in his Instagram post last June 8. He wrote, “Today was a very happy day.
“Three of our athletes from Ormoc City qualified for the Women’s Epee National Team and will be seeing action at the coming Thailand SouthEast Asian Games in December. Let’s go team!
Alexa, Juliana and Ivy.”
Last weekend, Ormoc City hosted the fifth and final leg of the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) senior rankings — a crucial qualifying event for this year’s upcoming SEA Games which will be held in Thailand this December.
Aside from taking a step back from showbiz to focus on civil service and his passion for sports, Richard has always showed how close his relationship is with his only child Juliana, who is also following in his footsteps as a member of the national fencing team. In 2005, Richard also took home a gold medal in fencing for the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games held in Manila. For her 24th birthday last year, Richard dedicated a post for her with some of his most special moments they share together.
