Kapamilya actress Nadine Lustre filed a complaint for violation of the Safe Space Act earlier today, May 22, after the “relentless and malicious attacks” she received on social media. Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist representative Leila de Lima threw their support and joined the actress in the filing the complaint.

Nadine has been a target of harassment on social media following her speaking about her political views during the recently concluded National Elections where she endorsed ML Partylist.
In a statement made by the newly-elected representative on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Leila De Lima applauded the actress for making a bold move by filing the complaint.
“We at ML Partylist express full support for Nadine Lustre as she files a complaint for violation of the Safe Spaces Act in response to the relentless and malicious attacks she has endured,” Congresswoman-elect Leila wrote on her X account.
She added how necessary this step was as social media is “being used to silence voices that speak for justice and reform.”
“Ginagamit ang mga plataporma para buwagin ang makabuluhang diskurso at palitan ito ng galit at paninira,” she added.
While Leila maintained that there is freedom of expression, it isn’t right to use it against truth, dignity, and democracy.
“Expression becomes dangerous when it is driven by disinformation and personal malice. Marami sa mga lumalabas sa social media ngayon ay hindi maituturing na opinyon. These are part of deliberate effort to harass, discredit, and instill fear. May masamang intensyon. May malinaw na layunin na patahimikin ang mga tumitindig,” she expressed.
“We support Nadine. Her case is a stand for truth and accountability. Make no mistake: we will push back against this kind of behavior. Hindi ito katanggap-tanggap. Hindi ito dapat palampasin,” she continued.
Nadine has yet to make a statement as of this writing but netizens have aired their support on social media. Other netizens hope that this move made by the singer-actress will inspire others to file a complaint as well.
“Maraming salamat, Nadine, sa tapang at paninindigan. Sa bawat hakbang mo, mas lumalakas ang laban para sa isang makatao, makatarungan, at demokratikong lipunan,” the official statement ended.
