MANILA - Filipino actress Dolly de Leon and Filipino-American actor Jon Jon Briones are among the stars who are joining the hit American series "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Dolly De Leon is among the Season 2 newcomers and will portray the role of Lo and Li, the twin advisers of Fire Nation's Princess Azula.
Briones will play the role of Piandao in Season 3.
The two will join Canadian actor Gordon Cormier who plays Aang, the lead character in the series. Cormier's mother is a Filipino from Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Other "Avatar: The Last Airbender" season 2 newcomers are Tantoo Cardinal as Hama, Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, Lily Gao as Ursa, Madison Hu as Fei, and Dichen Lachman as Yangchen.
The hit series follows the story of the four nations of the world that once "lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world."
De Leon is the first Filipina to bag a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the Golden Globe Awards for her performance in "Triangle of Sadnes." She recently graced the Los Angeles premeire of her first Hollywood series "Nine Perfect Strangers" season 2, with Nicole Kidman as the lead star. De Leon also starred in the series "Expats" also with Kidman.
Briones played the Engineer in the West End revival of Miss Saigon in 2014, for which he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He reprised the part on Broadway in 2017.
