MANILA -- Actress Lotlot de Leon turned to social media to thank all those who condoled with their family after her mother, Nora Aunor, passed away at the age of 71.
Aunor, dubbed the "Superstar" of Philippine cinema, died on Wednesday, April 16. The cause of her death has yet to be disclosed.
"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nora Aunor, our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines," De Leon said, noting how her mother "touched generations with her unmatched talent, grace, and passion for the craft."
"Funeral service details to follow. We thank everyone for their love and support, and ask for continued prayers during this time of mourning," she added.
"Her light lives on—forever loved, never forgotten."
Born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, Aunor started her entertainment career in the 1960s as a singer and was known for her "golden voice."
She went on to do powerful portrayals in films such as "Himala" in 1982, "Bulaklak sa City Jail" in 1984, and "The Flor Contemplacion Story" in 1995.
Aunor received recognition and awards for her acting prowess, including Best Actress honors at Gawad Urian and FAMAS for her performance in "Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos."

In February 2023, Aunor opened up about her near-death experience, saying she "died" for three minutes after suffering from low oxygen levels.
"Ang nangyari, hindi ko alam, walang tumulong. Hindi minadali na lagyan ako ng oxygen," she said in an interview with Boy Abunda. "Humiga ako [tapos] hindi ko na alam kung anong nangyari. 'Pag gising ko nando'n na ako sa ICU."

Aunor had a biological child, Ian, with former husband actor Christopher de Leon, as well as four adopted children -- Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth.
