Celebrity couple Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano shared how difficult it would be to have just ₱500 as the budget for this year’s Noche Buena. During the thanksgiving presscon the two had earlier this week, they were asked to comment on the claim of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) that ₱500 is enough for a Noche Buena meal.
This has been a hot topic on social media with netizens disagreeing with DTI and claiming how “unrealistic” it is.

Jessy admitted how she disagrees as well with the claimas she personally manages their finances at home.
“Honestly for me, no, hindi talaga. Mas lalo na yung bilihin ngayon, mataas na talaga and I kind of disagree talaga. Actually, no, not kind of, I disagree kasi ako ang nag aano ng expenses sa bahay so pag nakikita ko na ganun pala kamahal yung prutas at tsaka yung karne,” she shared.
“Kung 500, I don’t think kakasya yun so no,” she added.
Luis then shared that maybe it would be realistic if just two people would celebrate the Noche Buena. It was then revealed to them that the ₱500 budget was good for a family of four–– which changed his perspective as well.
“Di ba nag labas pa nga sila ng mga picture ng mga produktong pwedeng bilhin. Siguro what happened was siguro iniisip ang noche buena ay for two lang–– baka pwepwede,” Luis shared.
Both Jessy and Luis maintained that the budget given by DTI would be quite difficult and hard to work with.

“Kami nga binubudget namin ng husto yung aming groceries so it’s gonna be quite challenging na ipagkasya para sa noche buena. Eh tayo pa, Pinoy pa–– hindi tayo natatapos sa apat. Meron at meron na dadating sa bahay,” Luis expressed.
When asked to give a message for the DTI, Luis said he is hopeful that the s/ecretary has read all the reactions on social media.
“I think everything after that’s been said and done on social media, I’m sure nabasa ni secretary lahat ng yan,” he ended.
