Richard Gutierrez opened up about his parenting style when it comes to his two kids, Zion and Kai Gutierrez.
In an interview with Bianca Gonzalez on The B Side of Cinema One, the actor described how he balances being both strict and approachable as a father.
"Parang barkada and strict na medyo bina-balance ko rin. Siyempre 'pag may kailangan kong sabihan yan or I'm trying to guide them to do a certain thing or in school or what. Medyo strict ako sa kanila pagdating dun sa habits and sa school, pero parang barkada ko rin sila. I bring them to their basketball games and kung saan man," he shared.
When asked if he brings his kids to his tapings, he relayed: "They always go to my tapings pag weekends or 'pag sa lock in [taping ako] and weekend, I make sure na pinupuntahan nila ako sa set so parang naging playground din 'yung set sa kanila. Actually sa [Shake, Rattle & Roll], nakabisita yata sila isang beses."
He likewise brought his children with him during his Incognito shoot in Baguio, allowing them to see how productions work behind the scenes. "Sinama ko na sila sa halos lahat ng mga ginawa ko, especially nung Incognito sinama ko sila sa Baguio a few times so nakikita nila how films are done, how TV shows are done, how action scenes are done," he said.
When asked if any of his children have shown interest in entering show business, Richard noted that his 12-year-old son Zion has recently shown signs of curiosity.
"Parang si Zion nagsho-show ng interest recently. Well, he is not telling me directly. And then Zion has been watching a lot of movies recently which is good, di ba? Hindi siya nagi-iPad all the time. I keep telling them to watch movies so ngayon si Zion is watching a lot of films, which is good, good for him. And he is also into singing."
The actor added that he is mentally preparing himself for the possibility of Zion entering showbiz in the future but emphasized the importance of education. "So medyo nire-ready ko na rin sarili ko sa ganun 'pag gusto niya [mag-showbiz] pero gusto ko sana tapusin niya muna 'yung school niya bago siya mag-showbiz," he said.
As for his hopes for his children, Richard shared a simple yet meaningful wish. "I just want them to be good people and hopefully successful in what they do," he remarked.
