In the first round of questions, Fatima was asked about the challenges of being a woman and how she would be using her title as Miss Universe to create a safe space for women around the world.
“Thank you for your question. As a woman, and as Miss Universe, I will put my voice and the power in the service of others. Because nowadays, we are here to speak up, to make change, and have everything with you. Because we are women, and the brave ones that stand up are the ones that will make history,” she shared.
The Top 5 were given the same question in the second round of the Question & Answer segment: If you win the title of Miss Universe tonight, how would you use this platform to empower young girls?
“As Miss Universe, I will say to them, believe in the power of your authenticity. Believe in yourself. Your dreams matter. Your heart matters. And never let anyone make you doubt about your worth because you're worth everything. And you are powerful and your voice needs to be heard. Thank you,” she expressed.
These answers from Fatima were enough for her to clinch the highly-coveted crown.
Fatima’s Miss Universe journey became a very controversial one at the start of the competition due to the heated exchange she had with the National Director of Miss Universe Thailand (MUT) and founder of the Miss Grand International, Nawat Itsaragrisil.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ very own Ahtisa Manalo stood her ground and ended her Miss Universe run as third runner-up.
