The Voice US season 26 winner Sofronio Vasquez recounted his experience of being mentored by Michael Bublé in the reality singing competition.
In an interview with Vice Ganda on her latest YouTube vlog, Sofronio shared that Michael was very hands-on as a mentor.
"Totoo 'yung mentorship niya talagang offscreen, off TV, ite-text [ka] niya: 'How do you feel about the rehearsals? I heard your rehearsals. I watched your video," he recalled.
"[He would ask], gusto mo ba 'yung damit mo? Gusto mo bang palitan? Comfortable ka ba sa allegro?' Sobrang mabait. Naramdaman ko na maka-pamilya talaga siya nung every time nagsho-shoot kami, dala-dala niya 'yung mga anak niya."
When asked why he chose Michael as his mentor during the blind auditions, Sofronio revealed that the singer said something that moved him most.
"May specific na sinabi si Michael dun na talagang na touch 'yung heart ko na sinabi niya, 'You will never understand how Filipino my heart is,' kasi kinwento pa niya na, ''Yung inaanak ko, kumpare ko si Martin Nievera,' kumbaga talagang Pinoy na Pinoy siya," he said.
In the same interview, when asked if it had already sunk in that he had won The Voice, Sofronio said: "Nag-sink in na siya [ngayon] kasi nung nandun ako sa America na nanalo, kumbaga ramdam na ramdam ko 'yung pagmamahal pero hindi ko siya nananamnam kasi kumbaga parang gusto kong makita 'yung taong kadugo ko, kaugali ko. Nababasa mo lang."
He went on: "Kaya nung nandito ako, nakauwi ako kung saan ako nagsimula, [sa] Showtime tapos nabigyan ako ng chance ng ibang mga shows, na-meet ko 'yung president, kaya sobrang nakakatuwa talaga, kumbaga 'yung recognition is very true na."
Sofronio arrived in the Philippines on January 5 following his big win on The Voice in December.
"Sa eroplano pa lang gusto ko nang tumalon eh. Very excited to be with the people who root for me. I get to be back and just as excited kung ano ang mangyayari," he said in a previous interview with ABS-CBN News upon his arrival.
In addition to spending time with his family, he has a series of guest appearances and live performances scheduled, including a show in Cebu for the Sinulog Festival.
