Singer and songwriter Ogie Alcasid had a fun time watching the UAAP basketball championship.
On his social media, Ogie shared how much he enjoyed watching the final game between the UP Fighting Maroons and the DLSU Green Archers as the two teams are close to his heart.
“As a fan of UAAP basketball, the last game between the green archers and the fighting maroons will be a core memory that will be one for the books. I am a hybrid fan as I attended La Salle in high School and UP Los Baños and Diliman in college and so this year’s championship was very close to my heart,” Ogie wrote.
He also mentioned that his family attended the University of the Philippines, making it even more special to cheer for his alma mater.
“Cheering for the Iskos and Iskas was paying patronage to a family tradition,” he added.
Ogie then recalled the bonding moment he shared with his late father, saying, “Dad and I watched a DLSU Ateneo championship before where the Archers won and if he were alive today, he would have loved watching his Fighting Maroons become champions.”
Ogie also noted how his UAAP championship experience this year was extra special because of his wife Regine Velasquez and son Nate Alcasid.
“This year, my wife Regine and son Nate watched and cheered with me and it truly is this sense of family that the amazing UAAP games bring to life,” he added.
Ogie also enjoyed seeing other families supporting their teams.
“During the games, families who cheer for both camps are all present and for sure have their stories to tell about their historical patronage to the games. It was so wonderful to witness a game where everyone was one in-spite of the partisanship,” he remarked.
He then thanked singer Christian Bautista, who helped secure their tickets for the game.
“I should also mention that it was through my inaanak sa kasal Christian Bautista that we were able to obtain tickets to watch and so profuse thanks to him are in order,” he continued.
Ogie concluded his post with a message to both teams.
“Congratulations to both DLSU and UP for putting up a championship for the ages. While it could get heated at times, sportsmanship was always in full display between the teams. The schools’ athletes, coaches, and staff should all be commended for the grit, the hunger and all the hard work. Animo!! UP Fight!!” he said.
During Game 1 of the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball finals, Ogie, Regine, and Christian were spotted cheering for UP.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Ogie was very hopeful for the Maroons’ success.
"Kalaban natin ang La Salle, so last year siyempre nanalo La Salle. Hopefully we get it this year," Ogie said.

UP won against La Salle with a score of 66-62 in Game 3 on December 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
